what's the difference between a dealer only auction vs. a public auto auction?

My friend got an 05 fully load trailblazer with low miles for 9 grand less than retail prize through a dealer only auction. That sounds like a good deal to me. I was wondering if you can get the same deals at a public auction?

1. No... Thats why those auctions are "Dealer Only" . If it was the same as public, there would be no need for a separate auction...
2. I found a review of several auto auction and government seized web sites. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Government-Seized-Auto-Auctions.html These sites probabaly have a FAQ page to help you. It looks like they cost a little bit to join, but I couldn't find any free resources in my searches. Since the inventory is always changing, your annual fee is probably used to keep the site up to date.
3. dealers get vehicles a lot cheaper than public auctions.
