Belt Auction

What is a reasonably priced 30-06 that I can purchase from Walmart, Basspro, Dicks,Gunbroker etc.?

I recieved some great advice on which rifle caliber to purchase, but is there a recomended model for someone that will see average hunting time and most shots will be 100-300 yards. I'm not looking into an inexpensive firearm but not junk, something of decent quality. I have Walmart, Dicks, Basspro in my area and I'm a little cautious about auction online site but would try if recomended. Any other places? I was also going to look for sales but not sure if rifles are sale priced that often. Also, should I buy bulk quantities of rounds and where should I purchase? Thanks in advance 30-06 seems to be the "in between" ,so that's why I decided that me be best. I'll probably shop by Dicks, Basspro, Walmart this evening and see what they have, would like to pick up a decent scope or see if they sell in combo. The prices from the last time seem to vary quite a bit.

  1. you could try the Cabelas order by mail
  2. Another place is a local sporting goods store. Bullet purchase I wouldn't worry about all the scare is just lies. You can get good cheap bullets from Wal-Mart, I wouldn't buy any ammo from Dick's because you can get the same ammo for cheaper somewhere else. Can't say about Basspro the closest to me is 45 mins away never been to it. What caliber are you looking into?
  3. mossberg atr u can buy atwally world 249.00 plus tax i know two people who have them i shot both i 270 win other 30;06 i reccomend either i use both calibers they have more calibers 4 more and better qualit for more but it shoots well and cycles well plastic trigger guard but strong my friend dropped his 22 feet hit limbs neverbroke just knocked his scope out of wack he put anouther scope and fixed
  4. go to your local gun shop. if you want ammo go to wal-mart & yeah we will still be able to buy it but at outragous prices. better get it now
  5. Take a look at the Savage 111FCXP3, $519 with a scope. Or the Howa 1500 with a scope is about the same. You can also shop the pawn shops for great deals and maybe find a good price on a Winchester 70 or Ruger 77.
  6. Remington 700. Don't buy a 710 or 770 as these are junk. Don't buy from the anti-American Wal Mart either.
  7. Just buy a Good Used Remington or Savage Brand bolt action 30-06. A New Rifle does no shoot any Better than a Good Used One.* Buy Used an save $$$$.*
  8. The Savage sounds like your target. It's a great, sturdy rifle that will give you a lifetime of service, but costs a few hundred less than the Remington, or any of the Japanese guns (Winchester, Browning, Howa, etc.). Savage guns are available in nearly every kind of configuration with Stainless/blue actions, heavy, fluted, or tapered barrels, wood/composite stocks, compensated or straight muzzles, iron sights or not, etc, etc., ad naseum! Peruse this: http://www.savagearms.com/
  9. I completely agree with Panama Joe's answer, Savage rifles represent an excellent combination of quality and value. Regarding the scope expect to pay about $150. for a good long-term quality piece (not a great one). My favorites are the Nikon ProStaff for about $150. in 3-9X40 or the Bushnell Elite 3200 in 3-9X40 for closer to $200. If the budget is a little tighter the Bushnell Legend is also a good value at about $125. The Bushnell's add finger adjustable windage & elevation, The Bushnell 3200 adds Rainguard anti-fog and rain dispersing lens coating treatment as well as a better warranty. If you go the Savage route you can pick-up B-Square rings and base for the scope, relatively cheap but of good quality. Buy the scope with the rifle if you can, places like Bass Pro, Dick's and Gander Mountain will usually mount the scope and bore sight it for free with the purchase of the rifle. If you are going to spend a $100. or less on the scope you might as well just keep the scope that the package deal comes with. If you are going to buy online and have shipped to an FFL dealer check out budsgunshop.com. This should be fun. Good luck!
  10. I have a remington 710 in 30-06 and LOVE it. I bought it the same year it was introduced, and have never had a proble out of it. Out of the box, and a swab down the barrel...that was all it took to get 3 rounds in a dime sized area. I have had luck with the rifle, killing many deer and feral hogs with it.
