Do airlines still offer airfare discounts if you are traveling due to death of a family member?

Not just to attend funeral services, but as a sole surviving relative, to make funeral arrangements, close out the estate, etc

  1. No, because how would they know if you're lying or not?
  2. Yes, but it appears you can usually get as low a rate online. http://www.usatoday.com/travel/columnist/mcgee/2008-09-30-bereavement-fares_N.htm
  3. no
  4. Do gas stations, dry cleaners, rent a car places, hotels or funeral directors give discounts to people because a relative died??? What about appliance stores, cell phone companies, sushi bars and tile and flooring stores? Why would you expect an airline to treat you any differently?
  5. yeah they do, put its a pain to go through the process, because you have to present the death certificate and id and a bunch of other stuff, so it is easier just to get a cheap ticket online.
  6. Maureeen, I do not know of any airline that does. I have not seen any box to check for online booking for this, either. Regards, Dan
  7. Nope
