What % of all accidents are drivers deaths reduced by seat belts? What % of all accidents are passenger deaths reduced by seatbelts? Who is most injured due to airbags? What are 2 ways some of these "risks" can be eliminated? What kind of driver is especially at risk?

Public Comments

  1. *Safety belts when used properly reduce the number of serious traffic injuries by 50 percent and fatalities by 60-70 percent. *Motorists can increase safety belt usage by example and verbal reminders. Nine out of 10 people buckle up when asked. *The NHTSA was able to gather seat belt data on 30,251 of the 42,642 car occupants that died in car crashes. Nearly 56 percent, or 16836 people, of the 30,251 with available restraint information were not wearing seat belts at the time of the fatal auto accident. *Of the 10 adult passengers killed by passenger airbags 8 were females (6 were older than 65 years-old) and 2 were males ages 57 and 85. Six adult passengers are believed to have been unbelted, 3 were belted, and 1 was improperly belted (had shoulder belt under the arm). Seven of the incidents involved pre-impact braking. *Two ways risks can be eliminated are to pay attention to your surroundings, and follow the rules of the laws of the road. *The kind of drivers that are at risk are usually teenage drivers because of their lack of experience and immaturity.
