1. Go to eBay.com and read the information there, and it will explain it to you. Basically, someone has something they want to sell. They place a "listing" on a site like ebay in an auction format, with a starting price on the item. If you want to buy it, you place a bid for the amount you want to spend for that item. Other people place bids for what they are willing to pay. Whoever has the highest price at the end of the auction is the winner and gets to buy the item - the "listings" have specific time periods that they run.
