Is it customary to leave the price tags attached to antiques?
I have a friend whose mom is into antiques and they all have the price tags on them. I figured it was just to be flashy.... $450 for a dang "parlor lamp" from the 1800's?!?

- No its not, they can damage some antiques too... It sounds to me like she is trying to be flashy, like you say, and show off that she spent $450 on a lamp.
- You're probably right. Sounds rather pretentious to me, as if to say "Gee, look what I could afford to spend on this here little ol' lamp" can't stand pretentious people myself. I know a lot who collect antiques and they don't leave price tags on. Just grin and bear it I guess.
- Sometimes, I leave the tags on a new dress for a year before I finally get around to wearing it. Maybe she hasn't gotten around to wearing the lamp yet. You should help her find shoes that match instead of being judgmental.
- Believe it or not,I actually have a good eye for antiques.A good piece is supposed to be CLEARED of garbage like price tags! It's supposed to stand as it was when it was created. After all, idiots pay JUST AS MUCH for fakes as people who know what they're doing do for the REAL thing,so price is IRRELEVANT! You can PAY all ya want! People who truly appreciate the thing they have want to peel that ugly price tag off FIRST THING! People who care about STATUS,on the other hand, are gonna leave it on there, because that's ALL it's about for them! Yer friend's Mom is definitely gettin' her flash on.
