can I buy a handgun off gunbroker.com?
I am looking at a browning buckmark camper on gun broker. i am only 19yrs old and I know I cant buy handguns from a dealer in Colorado until im 21. but im pretty sure if I buy from a private individual, them im good to go. Sooooo, can I buy one off an online auction site such as gunbroker? i just want to use it as a fun gun for camping and hiking. i have several rifles in .22lr and lots of ammo. plus, I couldnt buy handgun ammo anyways. so its a perfect situation i found a buckmark camper for like $250 what about gun shows? could i buy from a guy at a gun show? or if i just wanted to meet up with the guy in kansas selling on gunbroker...?

- im pretty sure that you still have to be 21. that pistol would still have to go through a FFL dealer and they would see that your not 21, and then it would be a no go.
- No. You have to be 21. Save up and when you get 21 buy lots of pistols!
- The question should be why would I buy a handgun over the internet.
- Granted Gunbroker is a private sale however they need to ship the item to an FFL holder which causes you to be ineligible anyway. PS if I remember right Colorado passed a law that makes even a private sale go through an FFL holder so the background check is done and if that is true then you cannot even make a private sale in Colorado for a pistol under the age of 21. Also it is a felony to purchase a pistol in any other state than the one you reside in.
- On if the guy selling is down the street and you do a face to face deal if that's allowed in your State. No one on Gun Broker will ship a gun to anyone other than a FFL. Its a federal offense to ship and sell a gun across state lines with out being a FFL dealer. So wait or get your parents if they are willing to buy it.
- Federal Law states that you need to be 21 to purchase from an FFL dealer, which is where the guns from Gunbroker and other auction houses get sent. That does not preclude you from having a handgun in Colorado while under the age of 21. http://crime.about.com/od/gunlawsbystate/p/gunlaws_co.htm You do have to follow the Colorado laws for not having it concealed. Since you can purchase privately, that would be the best option, unless you are 'gifted" the gun by your parents---they can purchase for you, it is not a "Straw Purchase" as long as you are legally able to own.
- I bought quite a few pistols before I was 21 via private sellers. You will rarely find someone on gunbroker that is in your area and willing to sell you a firearm in person though. If you live in Kansas you might as well give up on that idea. You can only buy a handgun from someone residing in your own state. You might have some luck at gun shows, but not everyone is familiar with the firearm laws. I had so many people tell me that I had to be 21 in order to own a handgun even though police officers have told me the law is 18. My state law clearly states that anyone over 18 years of age can possess a handgun. I wish I would have printed the law and brought it with me so I could have stuck it in their face. Only FFL (Federal Firearm Licensees) are prohibited from selling anyone under the age of 21 a handgun. The age limit in which you can own one is still regulated by the individual state.
