I am considering becoming a real estate agent..advice?
I will be graduating from college in a couple of months with a degree in Health Administration. I thought I was going to go into pharma sales but decided that maybe I might like to try being real estate agent, instead. How hard is it to build a clientel? How much can I expect to make, newly starting, in Philadelphia (where I am from)? how hard is it to get with the big real estate companies (i.e Remax)? if the agent works for a huge company, is the agent's paycheck 100% commission only? what books should I read to get me started (both about the business and autobiographical..besides trump).

- Fantastic market right now. Wonderful time to go into that line of work.
- assume you will make $30,000 first year. This is 100% commission so you can go months on with no money. You only get paid at the closing. It is easy to find a broker to work for. You are self employed and not an employee. There are a lot of fees and expenses with this business. Each broker is different on fees. Some pay your fees and you share the commission. Others let you keep 100% of commission but you pay all expenses (rent, advertising, insurance, franchise fees, etc..) For new agents it is safest to split the commission and let broker take are of expenses. Expenses can run $2,500 a month so it is nice to have broker covers these when you are just starting.
