Auctioneers are threatening to send my account to collections for default in completing the sale.?

I bidded on an item on behalf of an Uncle (abroad) and he fails to to provide funds to complete the sale. The Auctioneers are threatening to send my account to collections for default in completing the sale. Do i have any remedy for avoiding being sent to collection? The item in question remains in the possession of the auctioneers. N.B: The condition/terms of auctioning does not mention collections but did mention a default penalty.
