How does bidding on ebay work?

I recently was searching through ebay, looking for a specific item. I went ahead and became the first bidder on it. It still has 3 days and some hours left. I have since then realized this was not in my best interest due to the fact its a bit pricey! Is there anyway to retract a bid? I don't want to start all kinds of problems on ebay, I just am hoping there is something I can do!

1. Unfortunately, once you bid on ebay, the only way to get out of it without it negatively affecting your feedback rating is to hope that someone else outbids you. You can ignore the seller's requests for payment, however, be aware that this action will be reflected in your ebay rating. Choose wisely and keep your fingers crossed.
