What is the order of belt promotion in most martial arts that have belts?
I know that every system of fighting is different but some are the same in the order of their belts and I am just curious as to what the order is.

- WHITE,BLUE,PURPLE,BROWN,BLACK THAT IS FOR BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
- in taekwondo this is the order: white low yellow high yellow low blue high blue low red high red low brown high brown black(1st dan, 2nd dan...) usually a promotion test only happens twice a year
- It depends on the individual school. Sometimes schools are part of an association, and the types of belts are dependent on that.
- JUJITSU Adults beginner red white yellow orange green blue purple brown BLACK 1st dan black 2nd dan and that goes on for many juniors breakdown e.g Yellow belt orange tab the tab means their half way to orange its easier for young children when its broken down
- Justin is correct. every instructor / school / and organization has a different belt order
- Shihan J is correct. However many use similar colors in similar order from white to black, some leaving in or out colors. There is no hard fast rule except within certain clubs or associations. From lowest to highest rank: white yellow orange green purple blue red brown black Some arts have red as the highest with gold reserved for the founder or Masters only.
- There was no such thing as a belt ranking system until Jigoro Kano invented it after he invented Judo. But, it was quite a bit different than it is today. Back then there were only white, brown and black, but there were still 10 black belt ranks, 3 brown belt ranks and 7 white belt ranks. Now the norm for ranks is white, yellow, orange, green, brown (still 3 levels) and black (still 10 levels, but in the 9th and 10th degrees[the highest] they can wear red belts). In America however many martial arts have added on more belts and stripes on belts, because that makes them more money. The arts that charge for belt testing, get more money the more tests that have to be taken. There is also the fact that in america we want to see progression and it is more likely that someone is going to stick with the training if they advance in rank after a few months than having to wait a few years to get their brown belt. Hope I could help!
- In Japan: White, brown, black. In Japanese martial arts in the USA: white, yellow, orange, green, brown, black.
- one brown one to hold up your pants. belts are meaningless.
- white gold orange green purple blue red brown black
- They're all a bit different, but... White Yellow/Orange Blue/Green/Purple Brown Black. Pretty much white, brown, and black are the most consistant. But it varies greatdly from school to school. For instance, in place of a brown belt, some Korean systems will use a red belt, which is only used for upper-ranked black belts in most other systems.
