What items do people usually buy at auctions?
Some family and friends have asked me if I'd like to make extra money by sending some stuff to a local auction. I have never been to one. What are usually the main items that people buy? These are all great suggestions. Thanks everyone!

- Some of the craziest stuff people will get into a bidding war over, you never know what people are looking for. Just take stuff that you don't want anymore up to an auction and sit back. One mans junk is another mans treasure.
- Yeah, what "arkie mom" said. You never know. I once went to an estate auction at a farm to buy one of those 2 man saws to paint a scene on, and I ended up buying the saw, a '69 pontiac tempest, some old feed sacks, and a big box of rusty sockets. I also bought a corn dog, but that wasn't in the auction.
- People sell and buy almost anything there is at auctions. Many auctions concentrate on one general category at one time--antiques, farm implements, office furniture, jewellery, Persian rugs, cars. Some are selling the contents of an estate or a farm and could have all kinds of weird stuff. Why don't you go to a couple? They're fun, and you never know what you'll see. Great place to people watch, too, it's almost like being at a play.
- Anything that you feel is total trash and junk, someone at the auction will pay something for it. I have sat at them and shook my head, wondering why anyone would buy that crap, but someone always does.
- Most of the time, it's stuff, we don't need, won't use, but we just have to have it! My garage is full, all at good prices! ROFL
- Local "weekly" auctions I would only send garage sale stuff to. Stuff that you don't care if you get any money because you just want it gone! ! ! The reason? The auction house usually takes 10% SO if you send a piece of furniture that you think is worth $100 and it auctions for $80 YOU are only getting $72. SO just send stuff that you don't care if you get any money for. The items that go for the most are collectibles and then you have to have a couple of bidders that want the item for them to go well. In my area you see old lunch boxes, coke bottles trays and advertising that is over 30 years old, blueridge pottery, old tools, etc......... go for a good price.
