Belt Auction

What is most important for an OEM choosing a V-belts supplier?

Public Comments

  1. The supplier has a good reputation for their goods
  2. Belts are like tyres. Poor manufacture can result in sudden, dangerous and expensive failure. So buying OEM should be safe.
  3. For US OEMs the most important factor is cost, for Asian OEMs it's durability, and for the Europeans it probably has something to do with style.
  4. Overall cost - just like with almost every other component. That doesn't just include cost of each belt, but also the cost of warranty claims if they prove unreliable, and the cost of lost sales if the manufacturer gets a bad reputation for reliability due to failures. Value-for-money might be a better description. Other things they will look for are quality procedures, ability to provide the correct volumes, at the correct time, ability to meet product requirements other than durability (e.g. noise), and flexibility if actual required volumes aren't exactly to the original plan.
