If I tip the car rental employee, would they give me a discount?
If I slip them a $20, would they usually give me a discounted price on the car rental?

- Probabaly not a discount, but you might get an upgrade similar to what you get at a hotel if you did that.. But not very likely.
- no
- That would be fraud.
- For a $20 tip, they MIGHT be able to get you a ten dollar discount. Or, you could politely ask if there are any discounts available that you can take advantage of.
- That would be considered bribery by the rental company, and the employee could be fired.
- Uh, if you're giving someone money to try to save money, are you really saving money?
- you'll probably have more luck trying some discount/coupon codes, or maybe saying you're affiliated with something (AAA, AARP, military, government/state employee, etc). you can look up some coupon codes here: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-deals/790643/
- Well it would depend on the person you tipped. Some people would just say thank you but no thank you. Others would just take your tip and not give you a deal or upgrade. Or you might get a few that would either discount your rental more then the tip or give you a free upgrade. On car rentals, the rental agent really can't discount very much since they are so controlling of the prices. [Even more so at airport locations]
