If I tip the car rental employee, would they give me a discount?

If I slip them a $20, would they usually give me a discounted price on the car rental?

  1. Probabaly not a discount, but you might get an upgrade similar to what you get at a hotel if you did that.. But not very likely.
  2. no
  3. That would be fraud.
  4. For a $20 tip, they MIGHT be able to get you a ten dollar discount. Or, you could politely ask if there are any discounts available that you can take advantage of.
  5. That would be considered bribery by the rental company, and the employee could be fired.
  6. Uh, if you're giving someone money to try to save money, are you really saving money?
  7. you'll probably have more luck trying some discount/coupon codes, or maybe saying you're affiliated with something (AAA, AARP, military, government/state employee, etc). you can look up some coupon codes here: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-deals/790643/
  8. Well it would depend on the person you tipped. Some people would just say thank you but no thank you. Others would just take your tip and not give you a deal or upgrade. Or you might get a few that would either discount your rental more then the tip or give you a free upgrade. On car rentals, the rental agent really can't discount very much since they are so controlling of the prices. [Even more so at airport locations]
