How do you place a maximum bid on Ebay?

I don't get how people set automatic bidding to a maximum price?

1. When you put in a bid, a page will come up that says you are the highest bidder at that time, it will also say, do you want to bid again so this item doesn't get away or something like that, and it will have a space to bid again, that is where you put in your maximum bid. Another page will come up and then you just close that page. You will then be automatically bid up on that item to the maximum you put in.
