Is it illegal in China to sell Chinese Antiques such as porcelain?

Just wondering if it is legal now. I heard it was not legal under the Communist Government.

  1. No it is illegal. They must have a special permit. Before the antiques had to be marked for export by the Beijing Cultral burea of antiquities now I am not sure?
  2. no
  3. of course it's legal, otherwise there won't be those large antique markets in beijing, shanghai, guangzhou......... u have to get a seal for the customs to export though..
  4. The large "antique" markets sell MOSTLY fake "antiques" so don't get suckered by that. Even the Chinese are honest about this, see http://www.china.org.cn/english/MATERIAL/180703.htm Forigners are warned also at http://china.visahq.com/customs/ as follows: "Some Americans report that items purchased in China and believed to be antiques or genuine gems are often later determined to be reproductions. Some travelers report that this occurs even at state-owned stores and museum stores. Travel agencies and tour guides will often escort tour groups to particular shops at which the travel agency or tour guide will share in the profit, and may claim to guarantee the authenticity of items sold in those shops. Travelers are warned to be vigilant when purchasing items in China." It is not illegal to sell antiques but it is illegal to export them without the correct licence. stamp and paperwork. There is an excellent site if you are interested in Chinese antiques at http://www.gotheborg.com/ which is VERY informative.
  5. real - illegal... fake r fine...
  6. It's depends on what the worth of your porcelain is, there have a classification system that came out by Chinese authority. in a general way, the higher the class means the higher worth of a porcelain. but the first class and second class items are severely prohibition of sale in China.
  7. I do not think it is illegal to SELL antiques, but it is illegal for it to leave China, so if your buying (and you need to know what your doing to as copies are everywhere), you can't take it out of china. Not even a Genuine old coin. So do not believe any seller or you be wasting your money....
