Ebay charged me for a price I didn't pay?? HELP!?

I was bidding on an item yesterday and someone had set an automatic bid that I couldn't beat. So my maximum bid got up to $28. I gave up, but when I looked back, it said that I was the highest bidder and the price was only $12.99 (my max bid was still the same). Then when the bid ended the price went back up to $28! I'm not paying this, what do I do? I am so confused I already emailed the seller...help?

2. Sounds like people bid at the last minute. Take a look at the auction listing and see what happened with the bids.
3. Take a look at the bid history on the item. And if you had entered $28 as your maximum bid, then that means you were willing to pay $28 for the item, right? So if the bid history shows that someone else bid it up to that amount, you *WILL* pay that amount to the seller, right? /Yes, I'm an eBay seller, and I hate buyers who bid more than they really want to spend and then expect me to just cancel their bids ...
