How does ebay find out if your doing Shill bidding?

Like shill bidding is using someone elses account to drive up the bid price but how do they find out?

1. IP tracking, consistently bidding by the same account, complaints by other eBay members. ~
2. Sellers employing shill bidding think they're clever, and that over-confidence is their chief downfall. Bidding follows known statistical patterns, and the very largest storehouse of that knowledge is eBay itself. Breaking a pattern reveals the shill. Other category regulars can spot it and report it, too. There are technology traps like comparing IP & MAC addresses. It's not just illegal - it's fraud, and wire crime, and a federal beef - but it's just a painfully stupid thing to do.
