How do I win an Ebay auction?
Its our first ebay transaction and someone bid against us, so now it is a litlle by little outbidding war, but I know there has got to be an easier way. How can we win the auction by placing our bid at the last second? Do sellers make up alternative identities to bid on their own stuff to get more money? I've heard of sniping, does it really work?

- Place a bid that is outrageously high, therefore outbidding everyone else.
- well theres this site that automatically bids for u, i forgot wats its called tho http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091001152129AAjhPqT
- there's not really a guarantee unless you bid at the very last second and happen to bid higher than the person you're bidding against.
- you could just put in the highest you are willing to pay and it will raise the bid every time someone outbids you up to your max bid it will not automatically go to you highest bid it increases like .50 or .99 every time
- Be the highest bidder
- bid the highest and check every so often then you will win the auction
- Decide what's the maximum amount you want to pay. At about the last 5 minutes keep refreshing the page and if the bid is still below what you will bid wait and make out your bid in the last minute and wait until about 5 seconds are left and hit the submit bid button
- there is a website, free called www.justsnipe.com. once you register, it will automatically bid for you on a superfast server so you dont have to worry about losing becasue of a slow connection. you can tailor it to make your maximum bid 1 to 5 seconds before the auction ends. if someones bid is higher it wont help. you have to be willing to spend the bucks to win. this site works well though, ive used it more than once. the first five snipes every month are free if you want more you have to pay a small fee.
- You have a couple options. Yes, "sniping" DOES work in some cases; however, by using this method, you also run the risk of someone else outbidding you at the last half second and you running out of time. You have to be fast in order to get that bid in. You can also put in a maximum bid; enter in whatever amount you are willing to pay up to and eBay will bid on your behalf until it reaches that maximum bid. So say, you are willing to pay $65 for this item, enter that amount, and each time someone else bids, eBay will raise your bid one increment above theirs until it hits $65. This method is good in that, it helps prevent you from getting carried away in a bidding war. Sometimes we start bidding for the thrill of it rather than for the item itself--this tends to happen a lot when you are in a bidding war. And yes, there are a few sellers who do make alternate ID's to drive up bids. This is called "shilling/shill bidding." BUT, this is rare, so don't assume. Most times, what you think is shilling, is actually not, it's just someone else who really wants the item. You can look at the other bidders details, if something seems off--say, 1000 bids to only one seller--that might signal something fishy is going on. BUT, STILL, it's not always true. I've bid on 10-20 items from one seller at the same time, this happens a lot when sellers combine shipping and have a product that the person really likes. Don't get too concerned with what other bidders are doing. Focus on how much YOU are willing to pay and work with that. DON'T get carried away in a bidding war; you may regret this later.
