Belt Auction

What category does the following question belong in?

I can't find anything remotely decent to place it in... Here it is: "Where can I get information on upcoming local police auctions?"

  1. There certainly would be much response even in the right category for something like that. This site doesn't have categories broken down by locations in order to find anything local to where you are. So most would probably answer to do a Google search. Like "police auctions in xxxxxx". Probably the closest category would be the sub-category "Law Enforcement & Police" that's under the "Politics & Government" category. You didn't look very far. But again, unless there are lots of people looking for questions in that category who are from where you live, you're not likely to get much information. I'd do a search for you and provide links but I can't do a search local to where you are. Google really is your best bet for that sort of question. Give it a try.
  2. The closest I could find might be News & Events then the sub category of --- Other - News & Events Since those would be local events. In answer to your question you do not know where to post I did find this tidbit of info* To find them, you can call your local police stations. Do not call 911, instead, look in the front of your phone book, or in the "blue pages" for the number of the precinct. Also try to call the police stations at surrounding counties and cities. They will usually tell you the dates and places of the auctions coming up, and some even have a mailing list you can get on for future auctions. Many put an ad in the local papers near the legals section to announce upcoming auctions as well.
  3. This is hard; but I would put it in Politics&government>Law enforcement&police. Hint: You can Always START to ask a question (click ask. Type a title, put anything or nonsense in the detail box.) The system seems to refer IMO to the question title to suggest a category, not details. You will see a list of 5 or so categories and on the next tab (important) you see a very compact list of all the categories. The list of the left is top category levels, the middle is subcategories of the list on the left, and the list on the right is subcategories of the subcategories. Then you can always back out of asking the question if your bashful like me. Just use your browser to back out. Go to a different page or something. or close your browser.
