How long does the bidding process take?

My family just put a bid in on a house. Our realtor assures us that nobody else is interested in this particular house. How long does the bidding process usually take before you hear an answer (assuming that there is an answer)?

1. Could take 6 days or 6 months, time is immaterial when buying a house you like. Meanwhile, start gathering boxes & packing materials.
2. In your offer to purchase, there should be a date and time, usually no more than 48 hours, by which you expect an answer. This is only applicable if you are buying from a private seller. Banks, the government, and any house that is in a short sale could take much longer. Ask your Realtor what to expect in a case like this.
