What to start the bidding on for silent auction items?

We are having a fund raiser for my disabled daughter on Sat. We are having a silent auction. What do I start the bidding at? We have things ranging from $10 to over $1500 (a week in a condo anywhere). I don't want to start the bidding too high. I found on the internet to start it at 35 to 40%. That seems a bid high for the high price items.

1. Silent auction is putting the bid in a sealed envelope and at end of auction opening the envelopes for an item. The highest bid gets the item. I have never been to one where they had minumum bids. I suppose you could state there is a minumum bid on something. But usually for a fund raiser people are generous anyway with their bids. Perhaps on the higher end items you could sell tickets for it and draw a winner- raffle them off.
