Real estate question. Please only answer if you know anything about it, especially the territory of New York?
Guys, i had a question regarding real estate in New York. I know you start out being a real estate sales person, and then a broker. I m considering a career in it. It requires over 75 hours in classroom sessions, and fee that nyrei.com requires is somewhere around $350-$400. I want to be the agent that sells top dollar houses in the future. And around the same time, i know it requires severe butt kissing. Agents can quickly see a turn around, if there is down market like of september, 2008 last year. I want someone to steer me in the right direction regarding the ups and downs, how this works, and what shall i expect in the future. My dream is to work for prudential Douglas Eilman. This question is open for experienced people only in this particular field.

- You are living in fantasyland. Agents like you are the ones who caused the real estate meltdown in the first place. Millions of people lost their homes and their hopes of ever owning a home again because they relied on the advice of incompetent real estate agents. You sound like a greedy incompetent person who thinks that he is going to get rich selling real estate and is not wiling to put in the thousands of hours necessary to learn how to be competent in the field and how to accurately determine the Fair Market Value of a piece of Real Estate. 75 hours is a joke. The Appraisal Institute requires a minimum of 4,500 hours of work to receive the designation: Member of The Appraial Institute or MAI. A real estate Agent is paid far more than a MAI is paid. You have a lot of nerve thinking that you are going to get rich selling Real Estate with little or no work. If you want me to take you seriously, get your MAI designation from the Appraisal Insitute so that you are at least minimally competent to advise people on the fair market value of real estate. Once you are competent to advise people on the Fair Market Value of Real Estate, then become a Real Estate Agent if that is what you ultimately want to do. We have far too many incompetent Real Estate Agents as it is. Most of the current Real Estate Agents should have their licenses revoked because of their demonstrated incompetence. We do not need any more incompetent Real Estate Agents giving advice to people about the Fair Market Value of Real Estate when the Agent has little or no competence in the area of determining the Fair Market Value of a piece of Real Estate.
- It is a very cut throat career choice if you want to make a living. It takes 2 years and a certain amount of hours & deals closed working for a broker to get your brokers license. Your dream is to work for Prudential Douglas Elliman --- then you don't need to worry about becoming a broker, just be an agent and do as told and collect your splits. Go to college first, or you will not got a job for a respectable brokerage that gets clients and isnt shady, and sketchy.
