If you have an ebay auction with a reserve price, why do people always ask what the reserve is?
Is this even legal in the ebay rules? Why would you have a reserve and then tell people what it is? Am I wrong here?

- No, you are right about the eBay rules. However, as a relatively new bidder, it is frustrating when I bid on an item and have no clue if I am even in the ballpark of the reserve price. From a marketing standpoint, why not just start out the bid at the reserve price and call it a first bid and then let people bid upwards from that? That way your reserve is stated without it being labeled a 'reserve' and people will outbid it unless they think the initial bid is overpriced for the item.
- I think its against the rules. People ask because they don't want to bid too high if they don't need to. Just find a diplomatic way of saying that you can't divulge that information.
- there is no rule you are free to tell them or just ignore them
