We have an antique steamer trunk - H W Rountree & Bros - Richmond, VA, Patent 1923 - How do we find the value?

We bought a steamer trunk for $10 at a yard sale. It is in great condition with the keys. We are looking for ways to clean it up as to not decrease the value and on how to "flip it". There are no other trunks like it on Ebay or with Kovels. Help....

  1. First I would go to your local library and look at the collectables books to get an idea. You could also ask some local antique dealers, but I always advise people not to sell to a dealer without getting several valuations and remember dealers will not pay full value because they need to make a profit to stay in business. There are people that only do valuations and charge for this service. You may find one in your phone book.
  2. how will ya ship it?? dats the question! i have a steamer trunk too./..GOOD LUCK once ya tell them vat it weighs! good grief.....mine trunk weighs a ton.....vish ya da best , und dunt vant ta burst ya bubble...but...dunt hold ya breath.thenx.
  3. You paid just about what it is worth. Not many people are very interested in purchasing antique trunks and those that are also paid ten dollars for theirs at a yard sale. There is such a great number of antique trunks (because that was the number one thing to travel with until about 1925, when people started traveling with matching luggage). I have three antique trunks, two from the late 1800's and one from the 1910's. Other than being an attractive antique piece of furniture, they are not of great value, I spent six and a half dollars total for the two trunks from the 1880's and three dollars on the trunk from the 1910's. I am sorry to say that it is not worth much. ~M.M.A.~
