How can I find out the value of my Blue Boy painting?

I need your help plz. I have a 12x24 (Ithink). It is 38 years old and in a beautiful antique frame. I know nothing about art, and an old friend of my mothers wants to buy it from me, I have no idea what to ask for it. It is an oil painting, but not from the original artist. Thanks!

  1. go to an art show and someone might be able to help you
  2. Antique Roadshow. They tend to travel the whole world. June 17, 2006 Tucson, Arizona June 24, 2006 Salt Lake City, Utah July 8, 2006 Mobile, Alabama July 29, 2006 Milwaukee, Wisconsin August 5, 2006 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania August 26, 2006 Honolulu, Hawaii
  3. === oh it's not even a print? i'd say she just wants the frame or perhaps there's some sentimental value for her. why don't you just give it to her? make her day.
  4. go to a collector's web=site on the Internet and ask. also, see e-bay. you never know. best bet is to talk to a collector(antiques) either by phone or e-mail. good luck!
  5. Sometimes copies of a famous piece of art can be very valuable. It usually depends on the artist that did the copy. If he is famous for his original art and did the copy early in his career, could make it very valuable. Take it to a reputable Art Gallery and have it estimated. If you know the name of the artist, you can google it and probably find info on him. Then you can find listings of art and their estimated value. Since you didn't give us the name, there isn't much to be researched. Lot of people have painted copies of Blue Boy and 99.999% of them are worthless.
