Belt Auction

How do you find local impound car auctions?

I tried looking on my local police stations' website; there's nothing there. Where am I supposed to go?

  1. Its VERY,VERY difficult. You call the police and ask when their next impound auction is. They might have them 2-4 times per year. Maybe 6-12 for a really big city. In my rather large city they have it at the tow yard that impounds them. 99% don't run or have keys and you have 48 hours to tow them away or they start charging you storage. Most are bought by junkyards.
  2. There are services that provide full listings of auctions in your area. They will also give you details of the vehicles being sold and the VIN numbers so you can run a carfax before hand. You can check out the most popular auction listing service at http://buyimpoundedcars.com/recommended/gov-auctions.php The alternative to this is calling the local auction houses/police stations in your area and gathering information. However, this can very difficult to find out about the specific vehicles being auctioned, and due to the nature of an auction, it is best to investigate the vehicles before you show up.
