I want to send a parcel from the US to China with some collectibles I have bought. Are Chinese customs strict?

I have bought some things in the US, mainly movie collectibles, and I would like to ship them to China. Can there be problems with Chinese customs, or it is not a problem to ship products to China?

1. Depends on the value. But I really doubt they will worry about movie collectibles. But I would be concerned about them getting there in one piece.
2. I agree with the previous answer. It also depends on How you send them and how they are described on the customs form which you must complete to accompany the shipment. If you declare a big value it will get more scrutiny. If you send post it goes through a different clearance process than a carrier such as DHL or UPS. ALong with the description of the goods, I label all my packages "for the personal use of resident foreign expert", which as a teacher is what I am, and they seem to sail through. It's all in the description whether it raises a level of interest. I did loose one package in the post 6 years ago. I foolishly packaged some nice clothing ALONG WITH THE RELATED JEWELRY and it never made it. I don't think the clothes would have caused a problem, but I suspect that the package was x-rayed and the jewelry, which was not valuable, showed up and someone snatched it.
3. Well Chinese customs are strict. If there is any reason to believe that they would be resold, they might add a tax (as many countries do). Mostly they stop things like books. One simple way might be to ship them to Hong Kong and then walk them yourself across the border.
4. If you are sending collectibles then they would have value. I would be careful sending anything valuable to China. you have to always remember that China is a little different than the US as far as value goes. Their income is different and as the one lady said here about her jewelry, if it looks to be of value it may not make it. I do not say this to be mean but to help show that things of value to a U S citizen might be of much more value to a person who makes much less than you do. I would not tempt a person to do something wrong.
