Cheap Flights or ways around expensive airline tickets?

Ok, before you even say it, I already searched Kayak which lists ALL of the discount ticket sites. I'm going from BOS to FLL departing 3/12 or 3/13 and returning on 3/21. The cheapest tickets I could find were around $500 (round trip). I'm traveling with one other person, so I need two tickets. We are flexible about which airport we leave from as long as it is in the Boston Area. My question is two-fold....do you know of anywhere that they are selling tickets for when I would be traveling that would be closer to $200-$300 roundtrip, and are there any other ways (such as a stand-by ticket) to get around the expensive fairs? If we wait longer, do the flights get cheaper?

Since this is spring break season and you want to fly in a week, you will not find flights cheaper. These flights have only a couple of seats still available and unlike what some people think, the airline does not discount these. In fact, these seats will be sold at full fare. Buy now, in a couple of days those flights maybe sold out and then you won't be able to get down there.

I even looked at Southwest (which is not linked to Kayak), for Manchester NH and Providence RI as well as Boston Logan, and you're too close to the travel date to get their cheapest fares. There's no way you're going to find cheap airfare to fly a week from now. The Greyhound bus is close to your price -- $309 non-refundable fare for the first person, half that for a companion -- and that takes a minimum of a day and a half!
I have to agree with the above as far as dates go for airlines, and RoofingP has a great idea. I'd like to add 1 thing to that. The train is higher priced than Greyhound, and less expensive than the airlines, however their luxury is equal to that of the airlines. Also consider the scenery and the speed. Amtrak gets up to 90 m.p.h. on long straight rails outrunning Greyhound. Whatever means you go I wish you happiness.
