  1. how are they going to ship it to you?
  2. look at the rating of the seller also the thing about buying cars on ebay is you dont get to see the car and hear it start or feel it drive so your just going off of what the dealer or seller wants you to know, not really a safe bet
  3. Don't buy a car you can't inspect (or have inspected). It's THE golden rule folks. I haven't bought a car online and I would only buy something I couldn't find locally; but...I'd make a point to get out there and take a look at it before I spend my ducats. But generally if it's something special it's not going to be cheap. Cheap only works when you're smart...if you're being dumb (i.e. without common sense) then there's a shark in the lobby waiting to eat you.
  4. I have inspected about a dozen cars on ebay and all were wrecks and nothing like the description half of the people I would describe as total crooks, one guy appeared to be genuinely stupid
  5. When you say you want to buy it at a low price and you don't get that low price i don't know what you mean, eBay is an auction site, people list stuff on there with a low starting price to get people interested in bidding, usually (especially with vehicles) the seller has a reserve price that they put in the auction to enable them to make sure it is not sold unless that price is met or exceeded (buyers cant see this price it will just say reserve not met or reserve met). For example... if someone was selling a car on ebay and wanted $5000 for it, they may start the bidding off at $200 but that doesnt mean you are going to get it for that, if they put a reserve price in of say $4000, this is the LOWEST they will accept for the car, ebay will not sell that car unless the bidding gets upto or past $4000. So if the auction finishes and only $1200 was bid, it will say the item is not sold. Ebay is safe for car auctions if you know what you are doing and i would recommend phoning the seller or viewing the car before bidding etc. Sometimes even if the auction ends and the car is not sold because of the whole reserve price thing, you can contact the seller, ask them what they wanted for it and make them an offer that way. Only do this if you are confident they are legit and i would recommend again doing it face to face esp if it is not through the ebay auction. You have a bit more back up from ebay (in theory) if you do it through an auction and something goes wrong, but i still cant emphasize the importance of checking all the facts first, any questions you ask the seller, get proof of the answers, and i would always want to see the vehicle first before committing to buying it online.
  6. most of the time its a scam..... its a little hard to ship a car over ups mail or fed x..... unless u can go and pick it up.... its mostly a scam
  7. The absurdly low priced newer cars that include "free shipping" and an "inspection period" are all scams. As far as finding legitimate deals, there are some. The comments about relying on a sellers feedback are not true. If a seller has their account hacked a scammer can post an item for sale and it will appear they are honest. The only way to determine if a deal is legit is to contact the seller and ask lots of detailed questions and request more pictures of specific areas of the car. I have bought several cars sold on ebay and have not had a problem. Most sellers place a reserve on a car which means if it isn't bid above that level, it won't sell.
  8. It might or might not be a scam. Your best bet is to search ebay for vehicles near where you live. Then go look at the cars before you bid. Take a mechanic with you.
