What happens to the bits of leather punched out of leather belts?

When they make leather belts in the factory, what happens to the bits of leather they have punched out to make the holes? do not see how they can be recycled?

1. They put the bits into fillings for saddles etc .
2. they plant them to grow more belts
3. A well known international burger chain buys them - I really don't know why.
4. Somewhere, in a the far away land of Leathertopia, there is a collection of these "bits of leather" you speak of. The pile is high and glorious, and there are men in leather jumpsuits guarding it constantly. What is this leather used for? Well, deep in the night the Leather Fairy erupts from the pile and goes from residence to residence of Leathertopia visiting their dreams and granting their deepest desires.
