Is bidding for items online a better way to get good deals?

I am just curious to know whether bidding for items online is a better to get things at a cheap price. For example I was looking at several bidding websites like quibids, beezids and big deal, and I saw that many people won laptops, iPods, and other stuff, for a very good price. In fact, most of the winners won stuff at least 50% off the retail value. So, I am just wondering whether I should venture into the online bidding arena, I would like to know that I am not entering a scam or any sort like that, because I have heard people tell me, that you can never win in a online bidding site, or that it is very difficult, so please tell me, whether it is a good choice to venture into online bidding. Please tell your feedback, based on experience, winning something through a bidding site (if so, tell me what bidding site) or through logical explanation and last but not least careful observation. 1. don't use those!!! They are scams. Only use eBay and buy.com, as well as other reputable websites that do not require you to pay for bids. Those websites are basically gambling websites!! Have a Great Day
