How do you place an automatic bid on ebay?

I keep being outbid on this item and would like to but a high bid on an item. but its not my final offer. Hope to hear some clear answers thank you.

1. Up your maximum bid amount to the most you are willing to pay if you so happen to be the winner of the auction. that way when someone tries to outbid you they will be having the same issue that you are having now. Ex: a laptop is currently at $100.01. It asks you to enter $101.00 or so. You enter $115 but it says you have been out bid. Thats because someone has put in over $120 as their maximum bid and you are only bumping up the amount everytime you enter a higher number. So if its at $120 but you are willing to pay $200 for sure then enter $200 as your maximum bid. If it accepts then you are good. It will be set for others to have to put in $121 or more. If 'Johnny' so happens to put in a bid after your for $130 he will get an outbid message because your $200 bid is higher. But then the price(your bidding amount) will go up making it say he must enter more than $130. It will be bidding automatically for you until someone bids more than your MAXIMUM bid amt. Sorry its long. But its the best way I could try and explain it. Did it help?
2. When you bid it will ask what is your highest bid. enter that amount. The computer will automatically increase your bid to outbid the competition until it reaches your maximum bid amount. It will no longer place bids in your behalf after that unless you increase the amount.
3. No offense to either of these other answers - they're solid. What I do is wait until the final few seconds of an auction, type in my max bid, and count down and hit the 'submit bid' button about 5 seconds before it ends. One note though - the amount of time to wait to hit the confirm bid button depends on your connection speed to the internet. I use a cable modem, so I wait till about 4 seconds till it ends. If you have a slower connection, hit the button way before. Good luck!
