  1. I would have to see it first, take it to a gun shop
  2. Springfield was the trade name used by the J. Stevens Arms and Tool Co. which was located in Chicopee Falls, Mass. The company began in 1864 as the J. Stevens and Company. In 1888 it was incorporated as the J. Stevens Arms and Tool Co. It operated under this name until 1920 when it was acquired by the Savage Arms Co. I don't find any specific info for a Stevens double of that age, but maybe you can search the auctions under Stevens to find something similar.
  3. Most of the Springfield side by sides I've seen are the same as the Stevens 315, or 511 (about the same as the Savage 311). From the Blue Book: MODEL 315 SxS - 12, 16, 20 ga., or .410 bore, DT, extractors, hammerless, case colored frame, walnut stock and forearm, model identification is on top lever, this model also was mfg. under various trade names, including Riverside and Springfield. Does it look similar to any of the guns below? I tried to add links to ones that have multiple pics so you have more views to see. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=94539008 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=93991778 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=94367038 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=94447229
