How do I tighten the tension on my riding lawn mower belt?

It is a MTD and has a new belt on it.

1. Are you sure that you have the belts on properly.If so the tension pulley should adjust the tension you.
2. If you bought the right belt it should work. But if you bought a belt that is not the correct width it will run to deep into the pulleys and act as if it is too loose. Hope this helps
3. The other two guys are correct. There isn't an adjustment. The belt is held tight by a spring on the clutch pulley. If the belt is too loose it is probably worn or the wrong size. V belts wear on the sides causing the belt to ride deeper in the pulleys making the belt seem loose.
4. Difficult to say, not knowing which belt it is. I believe theres three. You made to just take a look underneath and see what can be adjusted.
