What are those belts that men wear during the Insanity workout?

I have been doing the Insanity workout program and I cannot for the life of me figure out what those belts that the men wear in the videos are for. Does anyone know? They wear them right around their middle. I don't know if it is heart rate moniter or what. Any idea????

2. Its a Heart rate monitor chest belt. The "belt" send a signal to the watch non-stop. So you always have and accurate reading. The benefit from this is that you dont have to stop working out to hold your fingers on the watch and wait for it to read your heart rate. The belt is the way to go!!!
