1996 Ford Escort LX belt too tight?

Just purchased a new serpentine belt for my moms '96 Escort LX. Dayco belt number is 5060505 as recommended by the guy at Advanced Auto. I'm thinking this is the wrong belt maybe? I have turned the belt tensioner as far as humanly possible without removing any other parts of the car and this thing still looks and feels like it comes up about a half an inch short. I was looking through the manual and noticed that the belt recommended for the same car WITHOUT A/C or power steering is an inch longer than the one I purchased. Could this be a mistake on Ford's part or should I just hang thing thing a day or 2 and hope it stretches to what I need?

1. Take it back and have them check again sounds like the wrong belt make sure to tell them if it has power steering or not it make a difference in the belt length.
2. double check the routing of belt it only likes to fit one way. if it is the right way then take belt back and double check the length . the dealership should know the exact length the belt should be. could be right box wrong belt problem lol . good luck
