How to measure/buy a V-Belt? Buy a longer one?

How do you know the length of a V-belt? I have a Dayco L470 it says 48X700 Whats the 48 stand for whats the 700 stand for I need a belt a total of about 6 inches more in length (I suppose if you stretched out the belt it would actually make it 3" longer) please help

  2. mark the outside of the belt with a pen and then measure it around with a tape. if the belt is torn up use a small tape and measure around the pulleys where the belt was and get the length. belts come in different widths like 1/2, 5/8 etc so make sure the width is correct also. you can not always depend on the numbers that are on the belt to give the physical size.
  3. 48 is the length of the belt. If you have the length you need head to the hardware store and tell them what you need. Most hardware stores that sell belts should be able to help you.
  4. Take the belt with you when you buy a new one. The48 is the length and the 700 is the width of belt.
