Where can I get my antiques appraised?
I would like to know the worth of some antiques that my Nana has bequeathed us. Is there a place online I can ask people how much they're worth? Or what should I know about going to stores to get it appraised? We have a brass urn, some pearls, lots of gold, and a cameo brooch over 200 years old. We wanted to go to Antiques Roadshow, but it's too late for that :( Anyways, if anyone has some information I could use, thanks!!!

- you can usually have them appraised at a local antique shop..or they can put you in touch with a local appraiser :)
- Point one: don't trust anyone, even a tv show Point Two: Appraisals cost a percentage of what is appraised Point three: If you are planning on doing this to take out insurance on the items, you will pay extra and itemize them. You pay per annum for each item. They won't be covered in your regular home owner's policy per se. That, you have to talk to your agent about Point Four: They aren't probably worth as much as you think Point Five: Try to see similar items on Ebay, and follow them. You will need an account. Point Six: Don't do any jewelry cleaning Point Seven: If you want anything sold by your jeweler, make sure, absolutely sure, they are trustworthy. How it works, is that some jewelers sell estate jewelry. That's what we did with some of my deceased mother's jewelry. Why it took so long is that she had small bones, and the one bracelet took long to sell. The other pieces, we had either divided, or members of the family who wanted them, made a per value price, and we, the beneficiaries divied up the cash. Point Eight: If the pearls are valuable, and they are sewn with silk with a knot in between, then, someone in the family might want them. So regarding the gems, do your own research to save the appraisor's fee. Then divide up amongst the benficiaries, or pay for an appraisal, at, e.g. Southebys But the best thing is to save time and money, and divide up the gems or buy one another out, as best as you can ascertain, Then you will all be happy, believe me.
