Why does Goodwill do this?

Donating is good, but I used to volunteer at a Goodwill store. They accept donations, and they sometimes get so many things that some things end up in the dumpster and never to the sales floor due to not having enough space to hold them. They throw away stuff that they need to make room for especially shoes. They just dump them. They are not given to thrid world countries or books donated to schools. Clothes are sold at auctions. I like donating, but I have second thoughts about how good donation is because sometimes your stuff will just end up in the dumpster. I guess it's better that some of your stuff is bought by someone who wanted it.....

  1. Check Yahoo groups to see if there is a Freecycle in your area. That way you can donate items you don't need to the person of your choice, and keep your stuff out of the landfill.
  2. If you don't think Goodwill is doing the job you want with your donations, check out the homeless shelter; they always need extra clothes and shoes...or a church. Or, sometimes there is a community wide garage sale; donate to that. There are many places that will wisely use your donations; (we even have a lady in our community who collects clothes and shoes and once a quarter holds a huge 'give-away' in a local business parking lot.) Hope this helps.
  3. They cannot afford the shipping costs to send the goods to 3rd world countries. A 25lb box would cost over $100 to send.
  4. Good will does this because they are in cahoots with the Masons, the Bilderburger Society and the Illuminati. Goodwill is a front used by the above mentioned organizations. In all Goodwill stores there are many hidden cameras that monitor what is being donated, who donated it, who is buying things and what they buy. Most of the people working in Goodwill stores are operatives who help monitor things as well. The information they gather is used to help control the public as a whole and keep the public "in line." The money Goodwill takes in at their stores goes to private jets, luxury cars, expensive cruises and haute courtier. There is little to nothing anyone can do about this as these groups have such a lock on all that goes on. i recommend you just go with the flow. some have tried to take these groups on and well... let's just say they have "moved on." i hope this helps.
  5. That is ridiculous that they do that when they can send it to other agencies that could use it. I volunteer for one that if they get too much stuff they cannot store it they give it to other places like the local food/clothing band, Salvation Army and other thrifts like Goodwill. We also network with other agencies to assist families that need emergency resources say some disaster has befallen them or because of DV they left everything behind. This help them to re-establish home life again and gain some sort of normalcy. Do you realize that by them throwing good items away also keeps there prices higher than most thrift stores? It has to do with price and demand. The more the demand is the higher the price, the less the demand is the lower the price is. So items that are in demand they limit for resale this way they can keep the price high. Check the link below as others have found out what is Goodwill's junk is someone else's treasure. Since disposing of such items cost Goodwill money why not introduce to management about notifying other agencies in the area so they can come and make pick ups on what their clients could use. This way they are saving themselves the money for waste removal and assisting devastated families in need that don't have money to spend at Goodwill.
