Murray Lawn Mower Belt?
I have an older Murray lawn mower, with the boxier front end. When i let the clutch out in any gear, it won't go anywhere. I think it's the belt, because it is starting to shred and come apart. I don't want to buy a belt and have it not be the problem. Any suggestions?

- It,s the belt, it has stretched, and like you said shredding that's a good indication it,s shot.
- Well, you definitely need a belt. I got mine from a good mower shop, they will need the model and serial number to order the correct belt. If your handy you can get it on in an afternoon, if not just take the mower down to the shop and have them replace it for you.
- Yes, it is a very silly think (no offense intended) to try to save the belt once it has started to shred, so you have to bite the bullet and replace the belt. However, to save money, call Murray for the size of the belt in inches and then, with this information in your hand, nip down to O'Reily auto-parts and they will mach the belt at nearly half the cost. They have good belts, so don''t get worry they will sell you a back of crock. Good luck. XX
- Your belt needs to be replaced. Now before you go and take it off are you sure that you can put it back on correctly? Not to imply that you don't know what you are doing but the number one question on this site about riding mowers is "how do I installed the belt on my lawn tractor"? If you don't have an owner's manual or a decal on the tractor showing the routing I would consider a couple of digital photos so that reinstalling it goes easy. Just trying to be helpful here.
