Moving to England from Ireland?? Help?
Hey guys, Im 22 and am currently an estate house manager part time, I did work in an auctioneers but was made redundant. Iv done several courses but have my heart set on doing something with animals. I found an Animal Care course in Askham Bryan in York which is 2 years long and really want to do it. However, I have researched alot but there are certain things I wonder about, for instance, jobs I would have to work aswel as go to college, the wage is 10 euro an hour here and I doubt Id see the likes of that in England would that be right? Also I come from a farming background and live in the country would you have any idea of a genuinely nice place to live out from the town? I lived in Yorkshire (Bradford) for the first 10 years of my life and visited last month, although Im aware that things are much nicer when your on a break sight seeing with money in your pocket!! I just wonder if I could get some advice on the above and also on what rights I have (if any at all). Im going into this with an fair open mind and would love to hear from as many as possible... Thank you!! (Im forgetting half the questions now)

- You won't get any Euros an hour in England - mercifully we have yet to embace that filthy european money. There are lots of Paddies in England already we just about have space for one more so welcome aboard (do shut up about potatoes when you get here though).
- As an Irishman your have exactly the same rights as a british person, there is no restrictions on you as far as work, education etc, etc. (this is all to do with the 1922 agreement rather than any EU stuff) York is a lovely city, plenty of tourists which should mean plenty of work in jobs traditionally done by students (i.e bar, waiting, etc, etc) (I doubt many people on here will be able to advise you on agricultural work, though i'd expect the college will have contacts in the local animal welfare community, i.e farms, vets, zoo's etc, etc and so would be up to speed on job vacancies in those areas suitable for their students, by the same token the college should have full listings on available accommodation in the area) I don't really know the area outside York, but Bradford is not a place i personally would choose to live, there is minimum wage here which is less than 10 euros an hour, BUT as previously stated unlike foreign students you won't have a cap on the amount of hours you can work
- There are lots of beautiful rural areas around York including the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors. You could live in a small country town such as Pickering and commute into York by bus each day
