Can I use a foreign credit card to purchase things from Yahoo Auctions Japan?

I have a Chase Visa American credit card and am wondering if there is a way for me to use it to buy things on Yahoo Auctions Japan. I'm currently living in Japan, so I do have a Japanese address for the things to be sent to. I speak a bit of Japanese but also have friends who speak much more who would be willing to help me communicate with sellers if it is necessary. I'm really wondering if there is a Japanese version of Paypal or something similar, or whether it simply depends on the seller or is just not possible. Thanks!

  1. Almost all Japanese companies that take credit cards will accept foreign cards as long as it is VISA
  2. Yes, and the credit card company is happy to get their cut. Edit, yes, Japan does have paypal. My friend in Osaka used it when she bought a book off of amazon.
  3. Yahoo Auction is similar to eBay. Some sellers might accept credit cards, if they do, you are okay. But the great majority do not accept credit cards, they are just private sellers, not companies. In which case, well, take a guess. As for PayPal, I have heard they are coming to Japan, but that hasn't happened as far as I have heard. There is something similar to PayPal. My wife uses it for purchases. She doesn't like it. They serve not only as the intermediary for payment, but all communications go through them too.
  4. You can use your credit card (VISA) if the seller accepts ヤフーかんたん決済 as a method of payment, and many sellers do. http://payment.yahoo.co.jp/ It's convenient for small purchanses, but for anything over 10,000 yen the handling charge is 5% so it can be expensive. Otherwise you can simply remit money to the bank account the seller specifies, since you are in Japan.
