Where is the best place to auction antiques that are worth hundreds of dollars?
My understanding of Sothebys is that they only take items worth many thousands of dollars. We have a few items that we estimate are worth several hundred dollars each. One is an art deco lamp; the other is a painting. Where is the best place to go to get them auctioned off? I don't want to go to the local auctionhouse where there's twenty or thirty people present, and it gets sold for $25. Is EBAY the best option?

- Here are a couple to check out. The second seems to be the best as they show auction houses all over the world and if you check the top of the page you can get to your state or wherever you live. http://www.auctionhouse.com http://www.artnet.com/AuctionHouseDirectory/index.aspx http://www.ehow.com/list_6156643_famous-art-auction-houses.html
- If you choose eBay, you are going to end up paying about 12-15% by the time you're done with PayPal fees. Ebay can be a great place, but many times things can sell on eBay for short money too. You can research local auctions to find out what kind of crowds they get by going to http://www.auctionzip.com To learn more about auction strategy, go to http://www.auctionwally.com and use the search box at the top to find what you're looking for.
