What wall colors go with antique white trims and doors?

My entire house is painted with antique white walls, ceilings, doors and trims. I hate that yellowish look and want to update the house to look more bright and airy. I'm using Kelly Moore Swiss Coffee on all the ceilings. What colors (any brands) would be good to go with the antique white colored trims and doors? I'm inclined to paint the doors and trims white but haven't done it before, is repainting the doors and trims difficult? How would you do it?

  1. My room is light blue and cream, with white trim, and tan curtains, it looks really nice! It makes the room bright and airy. I think light blue would look great in your house, and if you don't want to paint the walls blue, use that color for your accessories (we did that in our family room.) Hope this helps, and good luck! P.S. Its not hard at all. :)
  2. It's a pretty neutral color, there are a lot of colors that would look good with it. I like the ceiling color, it's refreshing to see something other than white. Some colors I suggest are a soft blue-blues and browns look awesome together, sage green-green and browns would be relaxing and somewhat an outdoor feel, or if you're feeling bolder and want a much warmer feel, terracotta or orange colors would look good with the colors you mention. You could paint the trim, I personally use satin finish, I don't care for a glossy finish, and remember, the glossier the paint the more it shows imperfections. You may want to use semi-gloss for a little more sheen, it is suppose to clean easier, but I've had no problems wiping down the satin, and I have white trim with 6 people living in my house, 2 of them young children. As I look back over your question and see you like a bright and airy look, I lean even more towards blue, it has that airy sky look. I have Walmart's Shiloh Blue on my living room walls with white trim and mostly brown furniture and it is stunning. It is an adult looking blue, not baby room blue. Whatever you do, take home lots of paint color cards before you choose, they look quite different at home than they do in the store. If you are looking for Shiloh Blue, it is on a gray color card, but trust me, it will not show up gray on the walls, even though it will look gray at the store. Hope this gives you some inspiration, find a color you love.
  3. Yep it is a hard job but if you don't want to pay someone to do it then it can be done. We purchased our house 12 months ago and it had a horrible yellow/cream colour painted throughout. So we painted the Trims Dulux Lexicon Quater ( White not yellow white) and did the walls Dulux China White. It looks fabulous. It was my job to paint the trims ( we still have not done the doors yet as we have been so busy this year) and it is a pain of a job but i was lucky because we had a couple of weeks before we moved in so i could paint without furniture in the way. We had even ripped up the flooring so we painted before the new flooring went down. You can buy little bendy plastic strips that are made to be put between the carpet and the walls so it catches any drips so you don,t get it on the floor, i did not have to worry cause i only had concrete to spill it on and i didn't care about that. It will look great when you finish it and i sooooo agree with you about the yellowish look, i hate it with a passion. The only problem is our metal window trims are the same yellowish colour but i can not change that, we would have to replace all of the windows and we can't afford that. http://www.tablerunnershop.com http://www.kimtdesigns.com
  4. I would take a brown (the color of hot chocolate) to the walls, and do the trim in stark white The two shades of brown framed in the white will be outstanding! Painting trim can be a bit of a challenge, but nobody has doed from painting the trim in a room.
