Troubleshooting a chattering noise on the front of a 3.2 dodge engine. New belt and tensioner pulley?

Noise stops when alternator belt is removed. Alternator bearings are like new. Possible bad power steering pump? Noise is most apparent at and just above idle when first starting out. Has new gates belt and 2 different new idler pulleys. Seems to be gradually getting worse. Turning the steering wheel affects it very little. 2001 3.2 Thanks

  1. im just guessing at it but i work on a used car lot and we run across this a lot,and on the ones i have fixed i have replaced the power steering pump and made that noise go away,of course you know the alternator wont act up until the belt is on because that's what puts the tension on the bearings, maybe this will be of some help to you,if not it didn't cost you nothing to read it .
  2. with it running use a stethoscope on it to find the noise ,just be really careful that you don't get caught up in anything while its running, that's how i find noises in them, good luck on it.
