Do I need my own server to have a online auction business?

I am in the start up phase of my online auction website. It is almost complete and I have been told that I need my own server.. Is it nessacary for me to purchase a sever??

2. Having your own hosting account gives you flexibility, and prevents you from being locked in if you ever decide you want to leave the company you are with.
