- No, there are no discounts for children under the age of 2 if you want to book them a seat. If you buy a seat, you pay a regular fare for them. If you book your reservation and have her as a lap child and the seat next to you is empty when you get on the flight, then you won't be charged for using the seat. I've been traveling with my daughter since she was 3 months old and while she was big enough to sit on her own, I didn't pay for a seat until I ultimately had to. There were only a few full flights that I didn't have an empty seat beside me. But if you are wanting to save the money, just book her as a lap child and then keep an eye on the seating and move if you have to. You can also ask the agent when you check in if there are seats with an empty seat beside it. Usually, it's easier to find a flight that has a 3 seat configuration, no one wants to get stuck in the middle, so those are the last to go normally. Most of the time, an agent will help you out with seating and offer to move you to a seat with an empty beside you if they are available when they see you have a lap child.
- it depends on the airline i f i found this just not sure how up to date i for american too bad you didnt state which airline Within the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Mexico and Most of the Caribbean [edit] "INF" (infant <2 years, on lap) * There's no charge, no need for a reservation, and no ticket. All taxes are waived by Canada, Mexico, most Caribbean countries and for flights within the US, but the US charges $7 in fees for flights from Canada and $12 in fees for flights from other international points of origin. These fees can be paid at check-in. * The "INF" must be declared at check-in. You can use web or self-service check-in for yourself, but you must then see an agent (even at the gate) to have the relevant infant information added to the system and the accompanying person's boarding pass reissued. * The "INF" will not have a separate boarding pass, but the accompanying person's boarding pass will have a "plus infant" notation. * The "INF" on lap does not earn miles. * AA doesn't provide safety belts for lap children on its aircraft, although reservations staff may tell you otherwise. [edit] "INS" (infant <2 years with seat) * As of 12 January 2007, AA has discontinued the 50% discounts for "INS", who are now charged full fare. [edit] Outside the Above Areas
- Most airlines dont charge for children and they get their own seat.
