Where can I get free appraisals for antiques and other collectibles?

I have inherited a house full of various antiques and probably more items that aren't true antiques, but more vintage and collectibles like Depression glass. I have joined several antique and collectible online message boards. At first I was getting feedback, but after a while, the other members stop responding to my posts, although I don't know the reason for that. I have hundreds of items I want evaluated as to age and value. Does anyone know of a Web site that does this, especially important is that it be a FREE service and the members won't get tired of my continuous postings?

  1. Simple answer you can not! and are very cheeky in thinking that these sites and Professional antique dealers are going to do your work for you. From the amount you want valued its sound like your running a Business and want other people to do the donkey work for nothing. Well to use a good old fashioned American saying ( This might be an antique in its own right) There is no such thing as a free lunch!
  2. I think most message boards of this type are for people that have one or two items to have appraised. The other members are going to tire of this quickly if they see you are posting dozens of messages every day (I assume form your question). Wouldn't you get tired of someone constantly asking you about something. They'll catch on pretty fast that they are being "used." My advice - lay off for a while then only post one or two items a week.
  3. Browsing around in antique and collectibles shops can tell you what some items are worth. Depression glass is in a lot of the shops.
  4. One of the really good sites is http://antiques-help.com/free-online-antique-appraisals . They will help you in all kinds of ways. You do do a little research on your own and see what other people are selling a similar item for on eBay. I find a lot of great info there about pricing. Happy antiquing Tack
  5. You get what you pay for!
