how could the one's bidding automatically higher than my bidding in ebay?

i bid 5 euro in ebay's bidding, however the other bidder put more than mine immediatly. does he use automatic bidding software? i put 5,5 he put 6 i put 6,5 he put 7 and soon automatic? cheating?
